Assistant Archaeologist, Archaeologist & Senior Archaeologist

Institute of Archaeology

Archaeology South-East (the `Field Unit' of the Institute of Archaeology, UCL) requires short-contract staff to work on excavations in southern England. Work involves excavation and recording on archaeological sites as well as finds/environmental processing. We also very occasionally require Senior Archaeologists ('supervisors') to help in the running of some of our larger projects.

Work-opportunities can arise at very short notice, and we currently have in place a number of tenders, which if successful will mean that we will require archaeologists at short notice. Therefore, we are looking for expressions of interest from suitably experienced/qualified archaeologists whom we can contact as and when circumstances require. If you have already contacted us seeking work within the past three months there is no need to re-apply, and we will actively consider your application as project work arises.

Assistant Archaeologists will be paid on Grade 4, currently £17,026 per annum - £18,550 per annum. Archaeologists will be paid on Grade 5, £19,089 per annum - £22,126 per annum and Senior Archaeologists will be paid on Grade 6, which is currently £22,765 pera annum - £27,183 per annum.

Further details (including job descriptions) can be obtained from Jayne Brooks, Archaeology South-East, Units 1&2, 2 Chapel Place, Portslade, East Sussex, BN41 1DR. email fau@ucl.ac.uk.

Applications should be made by letter/email and CV to Jayne Brooks at the above address. Applications must include both an email address and `phone-number that will allow us to make contact at short notice.

We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as they are under represented within UCL at this level. This is line with section 38 of the Race Relations Act 1976.

There is no closing date.

The closing date for applications is Thursday, 31st December 2009.
